Description: Up for bids is this antique early to mid 1800's bronze coal miners wall hanging whale oil lamp. This lamp was found in southwestern Pennsylvania where coal has been being mined for hundreds of years. The lamp stands 6 3/4" high and measures 5" long by 3" wide. It is made of thick cast bronze except for the hanging back strap which is made of some type of steel. The lamp is in good solid condition with an overall natural patina and has no cracks or breaks. There are a couple small indents in the side of the font but since the lamp is made of heavy cast bronze I believe these were probably made during the casting of the lamp or the sides would have cracked. Otherwise a very nice old miners lamp that just needs a wick.
