Description: This is a beautiful and elegantly shaped creamer made by Porzellanfabrik Carl Schlegelmilch of Prussia, which was in operation from 1882 to 1918. It is decorated with a ring of pink roses and designs of gold filigree and flowers decorating the edges and below the roses. There is gold trim around the spout edge, and a splash of gold on the white handle. It would be so pretty to display or to use when having tea or coffee with friends. Interestingly there were three porcelain factories started between 1861 and 1882 in the city of Suhl Prussia by people with the last name Schlegelmilch. Erdmann S. in 1861; Reinhold S. in 1869 (as in backstamp RS Prussia) and Carl S. in 1882. For a time it was thought all the Schlegelmilchs were family related, but now it is known they were not all related, although it looks Carl is the son of Erdmann Schlegelmilch. The creamer holds about 1 cup, stand 3 & 1/2 inches tall at the spout, and is 4 & 1/2 inches long from tip of spout to outer handle. There is rub wear to the gold trim and decorations. I see a small gold filled line on the outside edge of the spout, that is about 1/8 inch in length. It does not go through to the other side of the creamer, and must have been there during manufacture, since it is full of gold (pictures 13 & 14). The creamer is in excellent antique shape. I looked closely with a flashlight and see no chips, cracks, or crazing. I do see a manufacturer flaw on the inside, where the light comes through brighter because of the spot of thinner porcelain. There is glaze inside it, but you can still feel the dip in the porcelain. It can be seen in the last picture. Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look. I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly, sometimes same day, always by next business day, and sometimes on Saturdays if I can get to the post office by noon. Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking! More history if interested. I looked up more about Prussia. Prussia was a Germanic kingdom and state from the 1200s to the 1900s. Prussia's importance peaked in the 18th century as it became oneof five great European empires, the others being Britain, Russia, France and Austria. During the Franco-Prussian war of the 1870s, the Prussian Prime Minister unified the German states. After this, Prussia was increasingly consolidated into Germany and started losing its identity. The uniting of Prussia and Germany continued until Prussia was officially abolished in 1947 after World War II. Of the great European powers of its time, Prussia is the only country that completely disappeared. The lands that were once Prussia are now within the borders of Germany, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Denmark, Belgium, The Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
