Johann Jakob Ridinger (1736-1784) worked with his father Johann Elias Ridinger and brother Martin Elias Ridinger. Johann Elias Ridinger (1698-1767) was a German painter, engraver, draughtsman and publisher. He is one of the most famous German engravers of animals, in particular horses, hunting scenes and dogs. He was trained in painting by Resch and Falch, and was taught engraving by Georg Philipp Rugendas.His etched sheets, which amount to about 1600 pieces, depict the animals in characteristic life moments and scenic environments. Old impressions of the leaves are rare. An edition as "Gallery of Ridinger's animal and hunting pieces" was started in Augsburg in 1817.
