Description: This antique banker's chair manufactured by Sikes Company, Inc. in Buffalo, New York sometime between 1900 and 1950. Crafted from high-quality oak and cast iron, this chair has a tilt control, rocking, swivel, and adjustable backrest that contours to your back automatically while you're sitting in it, making it a comfortable and versatile option for any user. The height of the back is adjustable using the two knobs underneath near the back. You turn both the knobs to loosen, then adjust the back height up or down, then tighten the knobs. The first pictures show the back at its highest position, and other pictures show it at its lowest. The back recline/rocking/tilting control is the knob underneath in front. I think, but am not sure, that the seat height is supposed to be adjustable. If so, either I don't know how to adjust it, or that feature is not working. I'm 5'6" and it's already at the perfect height for me so I never investigated it. I tried swiveling the seat several times in each direction to see if it would raise the height of the seat, but it didn't. My grandfather gave me this chair about 40 years ago, and I've been using it to sit at my sewing machine. It's a very comfortable chair! It still has its original casters, and I don't think it's ever been refinished, at least not to my knowledge. One of the casters has a tendency to fall out when the chair is lifted up off the floor. It's been gently used and well cared for, getting an occasional polishing and squirt of WD40 in the mechanical parts. The chair weighs just under 31 pounds. I will ship it fully assembled, except I will put the casters in a ziplock bag and tape it to the metal part on the back.
