Description: Antique Specimen Stock Certificate for incorporation of The Go-Gas Company. This certificate was found in my wife’s deceased grandfather’s home in Maine. Her grandfather, Ralph Wharff, served as the Chairman of the Board. We believe the company was started in the early 1900’s (approximate date of 1918/1919). The company developed a chain of gas stations located in the Mid-West and East coast. At it’s peak, there were 200 of these gas stations. From what we can determine, the company was devastated by the Great Depression. I have included in the photos a copy of the cover of the Consumer Bulletin the company produced in 1921. Also, there is a column that appeared in the Bulletin. These items are not included in the sale. Only the specimen certificate is for sale. Specimen Certificates are certificates that were archived by the printer and the company as examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimens can be identified by their specimen stamp and holes punched in the word Specimen. Specimens can be a design that was never used. All of these attributes can make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. The Certificate condition is good for the age. The photos give an accurate representation of the quality of the certificate.
