Description: Fore sale is this beautiful antique Blue & White Stoneware / Spongeware pitcher with the CHAINLINK sponging design. It has raised ribs approx. 1" from both the top rim and bottom rim around the entire perimeter. This piece is from the late 1800's or early 1900s. It measures approx. 9-1/8" high x 5-1/2" dia. at the base. This stunning chainlink pitcher will be a great addition to your rare collection!!! CONDITION: I consider this piece to be near mint "as made" condition. There is a very small glaze rub near the tip of the spout and few minor flakes to the bottom rim. There is an "in glaze only" line approx. 5/8" long on the top inside rim. There are several places with drips of dark cobalt blue coloring that only adds to the character of this great pitcher. Glaze crazing near handle (see photo #9). That is it!!! NO CHIPS, CRACKS, HAIRLINE CRACKS, OR REPAIRS. This piece is in AMAZING condition especially considering it's over 100 years old and was used as a utilitarian piece on a daily basis. It has the usual manufacturing characteristics found on OLD salt glaze stoneware (i.e., pits, pops, glaze skips, rubs, runs, bubbles, glaze separations, staining, crazing, and wrinkles & lines in glaze).
