The body of this silver taper candle holder is embellished with embossed decoration, replicating the details of the woman"s fabric night-clothes and anatomical features. This impressive character is holding a plain circular chamberstick, which functions as a taperstick capital. The figure is compartmentalised and fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover/head, comprising a vesta box. This exceptional example of Victorian silverware is supported by a circular domed foot incorporating a textured band/match striker to the anterior surface and underside. * This figure can be associated with the 19th century character Old Mother Hubbard. Whilst she does not appear with her dog, therefore this cannot be definitive, there is a wide range of antique silver items crafted through time to reflect this cherished nursery rhyme. Condition This antique silver taper candle holder and vesta box compendium is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and part hallmarks to the cover/hat are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Victorian silverware.
