Description: Antique/Unique/Rare Victorian Wightman & Hough Gold Filled Locket with Whirling Log Design with Paste Stones This locket was made between 1900 and 1908. Please understand the history of this symbol. The whirling log motif was a precursor to Nazi Germany's swastika. The symbol used for thousands of years was considered a good luck symbol by many Indian tribes. The whirling log motif was used by Native artists up until the 1940's. At that time the Nazi Party in Germany started using the symbol by slightly changing it's appearance into the symbol it represents today. At that time some of the Indian tribes prohibited the use of the motif by Native artists. We do our best to check the condition of each item.
