A LOVELY WORKING ENGLISH 1933 SOLID 925 STERLING SILVER EXTREMELY SOUGHT AFTER AND VERY RARE JW BENSON 'HERMETIC' (SOMETIMES DESCRIBED AS AN ('EXPLORER') FRANCOIS BORGEL CASED WRIST WATCH. COMPLETE WITH ITS PERIOD JEWELERS BOX! IN WORKING ORDER. CASE: The case to this beautiful rare watch is solid English fully hallmarked QUALITY solid 925 Sterling silver. This is Francois Borgel’s inimitable water and dust proof screw FRONT design with SOLID SILVER movement dust cover. It has NO presentation inscriptions to the case back and is in nice condition with a couple of small slight dings and some light scratches and scuffing through normal wear. The rest of the case shows some small nicks and light marks. I have gently polished the case, and it is shining nicely, as only solid silver can. THE WATCH MEASURES 3.1CMS (31mm) IN DIAMETER. The 'coin edged' bezel screws on smoothly with no cross threading. The inside of the back cover is fully hallmarked for solid silver. (Glasgow 1933) and is marked with the famous Borgel key stamp and the Brevet mark. One lug has had a soldered repair. The sponsors mark is SFC and the case number is 501011 748. DIAL: This lovely collectible watch has a its stunningly beautiful original brilliant white dial. It is fully signed 'JW BENSON LONDON and SWISS MADE. It has no hairlines that I can see and it is in excellent condition. It has lovely sharp and crisp Arabic black painted numerals. The dial also has a subsidiary dial which is in excellent condition. The crystal is a flush fitting and is in good condition showing some light marks here and there. The beautiful antique blued steel lumed watch hands are in excellent condition. MOVEMENT: This is a stunningly beautiful near mint Swiss made crown wind Cyma calibre 032k 15 jewel movement. The hinge that attaches the movement to the inside of the case is broken, but this is no great detriment to the watch at all. The movement is numbered 784246. It has chaton set jewels and beautiful Geneva stripes This lovely wrist watch runs well and winds and sets smoothly. As always, a full service would be recommended for optimum performance and timekeeping. It has the wording 'Swiss made' stamped on it. It keeps good time as tested over a 24 hour period. The crown is gold in color and shows some wear due to age but works as it should. BAND: This superb watch has been fitted with a brand new black genuine open ended fold over leather band with a white metal tone buckle. The watch and band measure 8 1/2 inches in total length. As it is brand new it is in mint condition. BOX: The box to this beautiful watch is a lovely jewellers signed period case. It shows some noticeable age related wear but is in decent condition for its age. Please remember that vintage watches have survived for many decades by being treated well. Vintage watches are not for wearing while doing yard work, working out, or swimming. Vintage watches cannot keep time like their quartz cousins and will need altering on average between +-2 to +-5 mins per day. They are a little more destructible than modern watches. Vintage watches also require periodic service and cleaning. Every couple of years, they would like their 20,000 mile check-up, oil change, and general service. By taking care of your vintage watch, you will have years of great service, and a quality heirloom to pass to another generation.
