It's made of solid wood and is stained (not painted). The fabric is not original, and was replaced by the former owner. The current fabric has a Japanese style design consisting of a variety of flowers.Our carpenter inspected the piece thoroughly and had no repairs to make nor anything to reinforce. The wooden frame is strong and sturdy, but does have nicks, scratches, and spots of worn finish--typical for a piece this old.There are no breaks, cracks, rot, warp, or any other serious flaws.
