Description: Antique Vintage Smallish World Map Jigsaw Puzzle, G.W. Bacon & Co., London, Complete Here is a great and unusual cardboard jigsaw puzzle depicting a world map, titled, “The World of Mercator Projection – British Possessions Coloured Rel Direction of Ocean Currents.” The publisher is G.W. Bacon & Co, out of London. Mercator projection “is a cylindrical map projection presented by Flemish geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569. It became the standard map projection for navigation because it is unique in representing north as up and south as down everywhere while preserving local directions and shapes.” -Wikipedia So, basically, this map is for navigation, showing the ocean currents. The puzzle measures 9 5/8 x 7¼ inches. I think there are twelve pieces, but the pieces are so oddly shaped that it is difficult to count. No box. The puzzle is complete with all pieces, but there are a few tiny defects. The paper puzzle is on its cardboard backing, slightly askew, as you can see in the lower left corner. Just above the word “World,” it is missing a sliver of a piece. It is missing another sliver in the lower right, just above the word, “Ocean.” The lower right corner is scraped away a bit. Lastly, 3½ inches from the left and 1½ inches from the bottom, there looks like a split in a narrow part of a piece. I don’t know if this split goes all the way through or not. These defects should show up in the photos. They are slight and barely detract from the interest and rarity of this puzzle. The puzzle is shrink wrapped onto foam board – no glue. The photos are through the shrink wrap. Please message me with any questions or need for more photos. I keep shipping expenses as low as I can, pack carefully, and ship promptly.
