Description: William Greaves & Sons Sheaf Works wood block plane. The Greaves family began building Sheaf Works in 1823. They were prolific makers of coopers’ tools in Sheffield, England until 1850 when William Greaves & Sons was dissolved.Measures 16" long, 2 3/4" high and 2 3/4" deep.Marked W. Greaves & Sons (though the name Greaves is partially worn off) Warranted Cast Steel on the front iron and Sheaf Works on the back iron.As expected of an antique there is wear to the metal and wood but still an awesome piece of woodworking history.
