Mirror is shown on a soft pink and a deep gold/brown color for different contrasts. This is for an antique chalkware / molded plaster wall mirror featuring winged mermaids, Neptune at the bottom I believe and possibly Neptune's sonTriton at the top. There is a small snake beneath Triton's head. Has a very Italian baroque grotto look, I think it was likely made in Italy. Hand painted and decorated with rich gilt on an ivory or cream base paint which works great with the gold / gilt finish. Slight differences in the mold on each side so not exact symmetry but close to a mirror image. The mirror is not original but it is quite vintage, could be replaced by new owner, one could get a beveled edge mirror if desired. Very unique. This is only the 3rd one I've seen ( both online-1 sold in 2013 for $550). Both of those were dated late 19C, that sounds and looks pretty correct for this piece. All 3 had the same mold design and were hand decorated in a different palette, this being the most attractive to my eye. Later copies of this mirror were made in a light pressed wood. Approx. 24" l. x 13-1/4" at widest, 7-1/2" w. at bottom, 2-1/2" deep at top head. Mirror approx. 10" x 3-5/8". Very heavy, weighs approx. 10lbs unpacked. Very good pre-owned antique condition with age appropriate surface wear. Some light nicks, finish wear &/or little spots of paint loss on close examination. Light tight cracks here and there, nothing loose or serious. Nothing egregious and lending an effect of "Old World" look to the piece. It is an original old piece on it's own. Back has some shallow plaster chips. Original heavy hanging loops (2) securely embedded in chalkware/plaster. Mirror was hanging for many many decades in estate. I gave top surface a barely damp wipe to remove lots of old dust and general age gunk-any further cleaning I leave to new owner as desired. Selling as is, as shown and described with age appropriate surface wear. Mirror is good, not original-but vintage, with several little spots on back but nothing distracting. OFFERED WITH NO RESERVE !
