Thank you for supporting our libraries and have a great weekend. From the dust jacket: The first edition of Neufert's book was published in Germany many years ago and has been progres- sively revised and up-dated in the course of twenty- six German editions which together have sold more than 250,000 copies. Editions have also been published in translation in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Russia with great success and it is doubtful if any architectural book has ever achieved such international usage and esteem. A number of plans and examples from British and American practice has been added or substituted, but for the most part the original diagrams remain since they show buildings, components, etc., designed to metric units rather than converted to such units as would be the case with most British examples. There is merit, too, in giving examples of styles and constructions which differ from or are quite new to British and American practice, though such examples may be more familiar in other parts of the English-speaking world.A special merit of Architects' Data lies in the succinct compilation of fundamental design data and basic technical information in one book. Plans, sections, forms and types are given in simply dimensioned diagrams drawn to scale. Much time-consuming research into user requirements wasting so many assistants' hours has been largely eliminated, and information and experience for many different build- ing types has been gathered, analysed and developed. The book will assist the architect equally whether he accepts the brief or has to write it himself. It will help the lecturer by giving him the basis for programme writing, and save valuable time for students in that part of the design process which is concerned with the perception and definition of the problem and the design brief.
