Nipple needs to hang straight down. Don't connect directly to a garden hose! Water nipple works under low pressure (5psi or less). House water pressure can be around 60 to 80 psi. If your nipples are installed to PVC pipe and want to connect it directly to a garden hose, then a water pressure regulator should be used.
