Description: This rare, turn of the century bonbon, chocolate box is signed by John Knowles Hare in the bottom left corner of the box top. J. Knowles Hare was a noted American illustrator. He did many magazine covers in the early 1900s. He was also known for his etchings and many prints. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators in New York. He was born in Montclair, New Jersey. 1884-1947. This box top has a stunning image of a beautiful lady in an art nouveau style costume. She is carrying a fan and wears an elaborate headdress. The lady stands against a green background which is framed in a black and gold border, very ornate. The condition of the box is overall good antique. It has lots of scuffing on the edges just underneath the box top which can be seen from the side but not really from the top. There is some missing black paper at the top of the box, see photos. No stains, rips or holes. No big bends. The inside of the box is clean. See condition report above for more details. The box measures 15 1/2" tall by 6 1/2" wide and is 1 1/8th" deep. The box is being sold as is, as found with no touch ups anywhere. Please email with any questions.
