Diligent collectors will be rewarded! ...SO many cool goodies finally being let go of, as I trim down this huge, merged collection to my few single-copy-each faves. (I'm 72 now ... no reason for me to still hold on to any more than 1 copy of each LP. ) This listing is for: ARTHUR LEE VINDICATOR . A&M Records SP-4356 Original 1972 issue Stereo LPMONARCH Pressing • M1 / M1 Matrix VINYL is VG+/EX High gloss, Very clean Vinyl with a few light surface scuffs that are inaudible, on Side 1 (VG+). Lightly bumped corner tips. No creases, writing or soil. Inside gatefold is pristine. Seams and flat, smooth spine are completely intact with no splits. Spine titles are crisp, sharp and 100% legible. *Please excuse any 'grainy' look to pictures (...from low-light photos). STRICT CONSERVATIVE GOLDMINE GRADING NM / EX(VG++) / VG+ / VG Debut Solo album by Arthur Lee, original leader of the legendary ‘60s band LOVE Released in 1972 by A&M, VINDICATOR features a muscular set of guitar-fueled, Psych-tinged hard rock laced with blues. The influence of Lee’s late friend Jimi Hendrix is prevalent throughout the record. Included here is the superb Psych/Soul spin “Everybody’s Gotta Live”. Love’s 1967 masterpiece FOREVER CHANGES allowed a lot of people to forget just how hard LOVE could rock when Arthur Lee and his band-mates were of a mind, as in: “7 & 7 is“, “Stephanie Knows Who“, “Can’t Explain“, “My Little Red Book“, “Stand Out”, Robert Montgomery”, “The Everlasting First” (w/ Hendrix on lead guitar), etc., etc. Love's 1966 debut album pushed folk-rock into an overdrive that approached Garage-Punk; Lee's first solo outing, 1972's Vindicator, reclaims his harder edge, with Charles Karp's* powerful guitar leads featured throughout and Lee's vocals strutting with maximum rock star swagger. *Charles Karp had been Buddy Miles’ guitarist throughout his Them Changes period, opening for Hendrix on the road. (I saw The Buddy Miles Express open for Hendrix at Winterland in 1968 and Karp was indeed a powerhouse.) Of course when Buddy Miles soon thereafter joined Jimi in BAND OF GYPSYS, that left Karp, his guitarist, out. Here, he gets an opportunity to again show his fiery, heavy licks, along side Arthur Lee. And anyone wanting a dose of Arthur Lee's well-documented eccentricity won't be at all disappointed with the brief spoken word fragment "You Can Save Up to 50% But You're Still a Long Ways from Home" and the anti-fast food tirade "Hamburger Breath Stinkfinger", both of which confirm Lee didn't turn away his muse when he cut these sessions. While Arthur Lee could create music of simple and fragile beauty, that doesn't change the fact that he was a rocker at heart, and he rarely rocked harder or with more passion than he did on Vindicator.
