Description: In Stock and Available for Immediate Shipment! Long SOLD OUT at the Royal Australian Mint! Stuart Devlin's iconic Mob of Roos one dollar design is made even more special by a tiny mintage limit of just 5,000 on this Panda Privy Mark Beijing International Expo Coin Show Special silver dollar, struck in one full troy ounce of pure silver! What a coin, combining Australia's native Kangaroo with China's iconic giant panda! Better yet is the tiny mintage of only 5,000! Stuart Devlin's famous one dollar "Mob of Roos" design, introduced in 1984, depicts a troop of large, adult kangaroos bounding along. A small privy mark depicts the face of a giant panda. The denomination "1 DOLLAR" also appears. The giant panda, with its delightful and distinctive black-and-white markings, is featured as a privy mark on this 2019 $1 Mob of Roos 1 Troy Ounce Pure Silver Coin, a special release by the Royal Australian Mint for the 2019 Beijing International Exposition Coin Show. The joining of the famous "mob of roos" and the panda bear, a beloved national treasure of China, on one coin celebrates the relationship between Australia and China! The kangaroo is Australia's best known native animal, and is instantly identifiable with Australia. Its ability to hop long distances and jump high obstacles has made this marsupial world famous. This special one troy ounce pure silver coin was produced specially for the Beijing Coin Show, held in November 2019, and has an extremely limited mintage of just 5,000 pieces. The coin celebrates Australia, as well as China, by including the panda bear privy mark The mint describes this finish as their "specimen" or "bullion" finish. We would describe it as a "reverse proof" or "reverse proof-like" finish, in which the devices are mirrored and the fields (background) are frosted or matte. Stuart Devlin Stuart Leslie Devlin was born in Geelong, Victoria in 1931, and trained as a goldsmith and silversmith. In the 1960s he won a competition that led to his designs being used for Australia's new suite of decimal coins. Devlin's dynamic designs depicting Australian animals are still in use today. Featuring five kangaroos, the world-famous "Mob of Roos" design, introduced in 1984 when Australia did away with one dollar bank notes, is vibrant and original, well-respected both in Australia and internationally. Apart from Australian coins and medals, Devlin also designed iconic jewellery, furniture, artwork, and coins for 30 other countries, including the United Kingdom and Singapore. He said, "I like the fact that millions of people around the world carry my work in their pockets."
