Two pieces of pipe work together to make an 8 foot tall upright in this break apart system. A 4 foot section serves as the bottom of the upright and is put on the base, and a 4 foot 4 inch section serves as the top piece. The 4" portion, located at the bottom of the top pipe, has a slightly smaller diameter and simply slips inside of the top opening of the bottom piece, as shown in the listing photo. Having a break apart upright makes transportation much easier compared to a fixed (one piece) 8 foot Upright. This will fit in most vehicles, whereas an 8 foot fixed (non-break apart) pipe is will not fit inside of most cars (except for some large SUVs). IMPORTANT: Because it consists of two pieces (rather than one solid piece like our fixed uprights), the break apart uprights have a bit more wiggle room compared to our fixed uprights. This degree of wiggle can be significantly minimized by ensuring that the spacing between your uprights and drape support rod is correct when setting up your display. **The edges of these bases can be raw or rough. Edge protectors help protect your hands and the flooring. Wearing work gloves is always recommended when handling any of these component parts. The slip-fit system is designed to be a tremendous time saver for setting up and breaking down your pipe and drape display. The uprights are hollow, allowing them to simply slip over the base pin (included with each base). The drape support rod features steel hooks at each end that slip inside of one of the four slots cut out at the top of the upright. Estimated set-up time varies based on the number of people and the speed at which he or she works, but should average about 5-10 minutes once the boxes are unpacked. The only tool required is a flat head screwdriver to screw the base pin onto the base (a very simple task). Other than that, no tools for assembly are required.
