Description: We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We also have a growing customer wish list. If you'd like to, feel free to add us to your saved seller's list and let us know what you collect and/or need. We’d be honored to add you to our customer wish list. We ask what we consider to be a fair price for anything we sell and understand that our idea of a fair price may be someone else's 'that's too much' price. If that's the case, feel free to make us an offer and will consider it. We also have sales regularly, so check back often. There is always a Sale by TheBay! Now onto the item for sale. For sale is a beautiful antique slag glass lamp made in NY by the Royal Art Glass Company. This lamp is signed Royal Art Glass on the bottom which is how every example we've seen is marked by the company. There isn't much information online, or from auction houses that have sold lamps from this company about the company itself. However, what is known is that the company was only around from 1910 to 1925 and was located in New York, so we know this lamp dates to that timeframe. In five short months, this lamp will be at least 100 years old and upwards of 115 years old.The lamp body, the part without the shade, is quite heavy at 7 pounds 6 ounces. As you can see, it has a great looking sculpted design with a patina brass color. Given its weight and the limited information we could find online, we believe the body is made out of brass covered cast iron. The slag glass really makes this lamp stand out. The eight individual pieces of slag glass have a combination of caramel and white colors in a marbleized effect. As you can see, each piece is curved and they all have an uneven underside which clearly indicates that they are all the original pieces. The eight pieces of slag glass are set in a beautifully sculpted metal frame which we assume is also brass covered cast iron, but it may be solid brass. Either way, it's a bit heavier than the lamp post and has a great patina. As you can see, this lamp hold two light bulbs with each having its own pullstring to turn them on and off individually. In case you missed it, the sleeve that goes over the light bulb socket is missing on one of the sockets. Obviously, this can be replaced and we have no doubt that a qualified metal smith could make one that matches the other perfectly and even give it a finish to match the existing one.As you can also see, this lamp works great, but the original cord was replaced prior to us coming across the lamp. It is spliced to the original cord that still runs up the inside of the lamp body to the light bulb sockets with two barrel connectors. The finial looks like a pinecone and is also rather heavy with the same patina brass color as the shade and lamp body. We trust the finial is also original. With the shade and finial in place, this lamp stands 23" tall. The lamp shade is 14 1/2" across from the center of one piece of slag glass to the center of the piece on the opposite side and roughly 9" tall in the center. The base is 8 5/8" diameter and roughly 21 1/2" tall without the shade or finial in place. With the lamp shade in place, this lamp weighs right at 15 pounds, so the shade is slightly heavier than the body.PLEASE NOTE: We will be shipping this lamp in two heavy duty cardboard boxes, one with the body and one with the shade. Both boxes will have a thin piece of wood cut to the exact size of the bottom of the box which adds strength to the box during shipping. We also glue the bottom and top flaps of the boxes together which also adds strength during shipping. The shade will have all of the pieces of glass taped with masking tape which prevents glass from vibrating as much during shipping and adds strength. They will also be taped to the metal frame to prevent them from shifting within the shade. The shade will be filled tightly with packing peanuts and then wrapped in a couple layers of large bubble wrap. It will be shipped in a 24" square box to ensure it has more than enough tightly packed packing peanuts around it for safe traveling during shipping. The lamp post won't need as much padding, if you will, since it is solid cast iron. However, it will still be shipped in a fairly large box 26-28" tall by 12" square with a piece of wood on the bottom and all the flaps glued together.ALSO NOTE: We purchase the heavy duty boxes from the UPS store up the road and they cost about $35 total. The wood costs about half that. We do not add these costs to the shipping cost for the customer. It adds to the total weight, however, the added strength during shipping is well worth the cost on such rare and valuable items. Each box will be insured. We'd value the lamp shade and the slag glass more than the lamp post which is just cast iron, so we will fully insure the shade for $600 and the lamp post for $199.99 and again, at no additional cost to the buyer.FINALLY NOTE: Ebay doesn't have a shipping option for multiple boxes, but the cost won't be as much for someone close to the Atlanta area versus someone who lives on the west coast. Since we can't use a calculated shipping option for a two box shipment, we had to select a fixed shipping cost and we used a Seattle zip code which is about as far as you can get from us outside of Alaska and Hawaii. The Seattle area will be the most expensive to ship to, but if you live closer, feel free to send us a message with your zip code and we will calculate a more accurate shipping cost for you. We also receive shipping discounts through eBay, so we will pass on those savings to the buyer after shipping has been processed. Thanks for looking and God bless!
