Description: For sale a refurbished Radio Becker Grand Prix MU II Stereo . This was installed in late 60's/ and early/mid 70's - see the advertising material slide (included in the sale) - in European vehicles like Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen plus Italian and English brands. This was the top of the line radio for the period. Grand Prix has the Wunderbar - an automatic radio station seeker. This feature was built with a combination of clock mechanism and electronics; the last version of its kind. Following Grand Prix versions are 100% electronics which makes this radio the last of its kind. When Wunderbar is pressed, the radio starts seeking a station by moving the needle from left to right. The search stops if it detects a certain level of RF signal (a radio station). If the seek reached the right end of scale an electromagnet is triggered and the needle jumps to the left side of the scale and starts to seek again. Definitely a discussion opener... Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This radio has an external stereo amplifier. This radio can drive 2 speakers but it can be fitted with a splitter or a fader to drive 4 speakers. It has 5 station buttons (characteristics of Becker early 70's) vs 6 buttons in late 70's. It was the preferred radio for W113 but it fits very well the W107. However, if you want to be correct to the period for the R107 see my other auctions for a 6 push buttons Becker. For 230SL - you need the narrow trim radio; this one does not fit; send me a message for those models. All other vehicles look at the dashboard cut-out dimensions. Very nice design with stripes face plate and chrome accents. About Bluetooth on this Becker (Not included in the sale): The designers of the time did not had an idea about Bluetooth but they were smart enough to provide a DIN plug on the back for Input/Output of the audio signal. The DIN plug on the back can be used to insert a Bluetooth adapter - not included in the sale - to stream music or for hands free communication. On the "good stuff" Bluetooth adapter: Open the white plug in the back of the radio, insert the adapter and you are done. You have to do that only once, when you install; after that every time the radio is ON the Bluetooth will be also present. See below a link for the Bluetooth adapter This particular radio was refurbished as follows: Bulbs replaced Electrolytic capacitors replaced in the radio and amplifier. This is a known failure mode due to age Final transistors balanced for minimum distortion Mechanical clutch adjusted Mechanisms adjusted and Oiled Potentiometer cleaned Contacts chemically cleaned Interior cleaned Tune needle indicator was (re)painted orange in original colorFunctionality: Radio functions as it should on AM and FM Beautiful sound on FM. On AM there are only few stations left and signal is drowned in noise Mechanical radio station memory ( push/pull buttons ) works as intended Stereo -red bulb - turns on on major stations Volume and tone work properly Balance - horizontal position below volume - works properly Wunderbar - works properly Aspect: Original faceplate New volume and tune knobs - reproductions Original tone lever and Wunderbar lever New chrome trim - reproduction Original name plateIncluded in the sale: Radio Grand Prix Stereo and Stereo Amplifier Install kit: 2 ring lugs, M6 ground bolt, Amplifier Bracket 1 page/ 2 sides Becker Advertising material - reproduction 30 day functional warranty.
