Description: Beethoven & The Spiritual Path by David Tame Published by The Theosophical Publishing House, Wheaton, Illinois ©1994, stated First Edition, softcover, 234 pages with Index, no illustrations, measures about 9 inches X 6 inches. Like New condition! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "This book has drawn good reviews from musicians and musicologists, but was also intended for the average reader with an interest in things spiritual/mystical. "Music," said Beethoven, "should strike fire from a man." I was drawn to write this work since few musical commentaries have sufficiently brought out the fundamentally metaphysical nature of Beethoven's music. Still fewer biographies point to the essentially spiritual nature of his life. (J.W.N. Sullivan's is the exception.) The first half of this book is biographical, written from this spiritual perspective. The second half examines 27 of his major works as being milestones along his upward struggle from human imperfection and toward God. Four years after writing this book, let me now share two things: (1) I cannot imagine having enjoyed writing any book more; (2) A secret: The book was never intended to start or stop with Beethoven: its real and still more vital meaning is intended to be about yourself and myself, as we too attempt to take the footsteps through adversity and toward Union that Beethoven did. He always knew, quite consciously, that he was writing even for a quite distant posterity. He was a great cartographer: I do hope you enjoy the trip." ~ David Tame ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This book would be nice for any Music Historian, Teacher, Student, Homeschool Parent, Collector, or for anyone interested in Music History, Philosophy, or Ludwig van Beethoven! It would be a nice Gift!
