Description: Shipping is combined on multiple purchases, Billy Murray (1877-1954) was probably the most popular recording artist of the acoustic era. Edison released Murray cylinders in 1903. Murray started recording fairly regularly at that time, first for Edison, and then for Columbia and Victor. Murray's voice was well suited for acoustic recording. He sounded natural while singing loudly into the recording horn used in the acoustic recording process. When electrical recording became the standard in 1925, Murray had to adjust. He had to sing more quietly to avoid over driving the microphones and amplifiers. In the late 1920’s and early 1930’s, Billy Murray teamed with Walter Scanlan for several comic duets on the Edison label. In the thirties, Murray recorded only sporadically. He performed on radio with Walter Scanlan and provided voices for a couple of cartoons. In the forties, he performed on the National Barn Dance radio show. He made his last record in 1943 for the Beacon label. This CD includes many of Billy Murray’s comic duet recordings with Walter Scanlan made from 1928 to 1932. These were mainly recorded for Edison Diamond Disc. The songs are modified for the duet format and many contain humorous dialog . All were digitally restored by Vintage Recordings. ************************************** Billy Murray - Walter Scanlan (Comic Jazz Songs - Encore 10) Edison Discs [Recorded 1928 -1932] Duets : Tenor voice is Walter Scanlan Duets : Baritone voice is Billy Murray Several Items will have a symbol next to a song.
