Mix bag of powdered nutrients with the 2 pounds of Biochar into a large bucket, add rainwater or non-chlorinated water to make a slurry. Let stand for 2 weeks or longer to allow the Biochar to absorb the nutrients with stirring daily. Add 50:50 Biochar to the finished compost mixture. Biochar works best when added to soil at a rate of 10% by volume. Spade in the planting bed about 10% of the compost mixture , as a no till option to the top 2? to 6?. A broad fork can be used to open up the soil to a depth of 10? first. Do Not add Raw Biochar that has not been activated to soil, as it will leach out nutrients and microbiology in the soil. When properly activated, powdered Biochar is most effective and efficient a culture media for microbial action of Mychorrhizal and soil structure. The charged Biochar is not a fertilizer, but a soil amendment that is very porous at hosting beneficial bacteria and fungi. Biochar can be beneficial to soil health. Biochar can moderate soil acidity. Biochar can increase water retention and nutrients in the soil.
