Description: Offered is this rare black-on-black jar by the late Nicolas Quezada. It is precisely decorated in a checkered board pattern and dates to the late 1990s. The brother of Juan Quezada, Nicolas was the most influential artist of Mata Ortiz after his brother Juan. I visited him several times at his home in Nuevo Casas Grandes. His pottery was so much in demand that only once was I able to purchase a piece directly from him. Nicolas passed away in 2011. This particular jar was purchased at auction and is in excellent condition. It stands 4 ½ inches tall and 16 ½ inches in largest circumference. Nicolas almost never worked with black ware so here is a great opportunity to purchase a rare work at an affordable price. A black wooden display ring will accompany this piece. Shipping is by USPS priority mail and includes insurance; local pickup available.
