It's similar to its predecessor, Heaven And Hell, yet with a lovingly heavier drums sound that fit perfectly Vinny's style of playing and a much heavier production. The uptempo opener, Turn Up The Night kicks the album off in perfect fashion with a great riff from Tony and Dio jumping in from the outset with his anthemic vocals charging along. Voodoo is a terrific bass-powered mid-tempo, where Ronnie's awe-inducing roar gets a chance to shine. The first epic track is certainly, the amazing The Sign Of The Southern Cross. This is an astonishing song with earth-shattering riffs, which features Geezer’s remarkable experimenting on the bass guitar. Lyrics are amazing too. E5150 is an instrumental pause before the exploding opening guitar riffs of the title track. The title track is absolutely massive. It rips and sets off another burst of energy. There's a driving groove, great vocals, insightful lyrics and a stunning, phenomenal solo. It's absolutely remarkable. Country Girl has the right groove and great singable lyrics. It's a great rocker. Falling Off The Edge Of The World builds from the opening words with atmospheric keys to the hard core drums, bass and guitar. Vinny holds the beat together magnificently on the drums. Geezer dominates with the underlying bass guitar riff. Ronnie powers through the range of his vocals beautifully. Tony breaks into his solo piece that raises the song to its peak. To me, this song is a masterpiece. All four members of the band contribute heavily to the greatness of the track. The closer, Over And Over is a slow-paced, moody number enhanced by Tony's absolutely searing guitar, a perfect foil for Ronnie's vocal intensity. This is another magnificent number. Everything about this album is pure magic. The backbone rhythms of the bass guitar and drums, Tony's amazing guitar work and technique and Ronnie's beautiful vocals, lyrics and storytelling abilities. This is a brilliant, striking album.
