Description: At first blush, an Elsa Schiaparelli necklace. Or a Christian Dior.With its exquisite styling, and "fantasy" blue aurora borealis cabochons, it definitely has "the look". Surprise! This fabulous find is a "Germany". Not the colorful lucite bead creations from the late 1950s-1960s that we do like but are not "premier" pieces. Rather, our necklace has the aesthetics of Henkel & Grosse, the famous duo from the famous goldsmith town of Pforzheim, Germany who DID create jewelry for both Schiaparelli and Dior. The company (later called Grosse) had a longer partnership with Dior that lasted 50 years, but our necklace's overall design sensibilities and elements are more reminiscent of "Schiap".Our necklace has a pattern of "art moderne" style clusters with vibrant blue AB cabochons as focal points. Each fantasy stone has a trio of graduated faux pearls forming an arc on one side, and a pair of blue AB crystals flanking it. The clusters are set into shiny silvertone metal.There are 11 blue AB cabochon-and-pearl clusters along the necklace's 19 1/2" length. It is about 3/4" wide along the jeweled portion. A fine silvertone chain completes the presentation.Our necklace is stamped Germany on a larger-than-normal spring ring clasp. On researching this piece, we did come across a Grosse necklace that has the same kind of large spring ring clasp.In overall very good to excellent condition. All the AB cabochons are a shimmery, rainbow-filled hue, and the faux pearls have their nacre intact. The silvertone metal is shiny and unblemished. A sign of its age: some of the faux pearls' yellowed glue around the base area is showing; not a distraction to the beauty of this piece. Some of the AB cabochons' foil back are not intact (can be seen from the necklace's base, but this doesn't affect the vibrancy of the colors).
