Growing Info & TipsThe Florida native prostrate Blue Porterweed, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, is easy to propagate from cuttings and is quite a fast grower. It has a low growing and sprawling growth habit and doesn't get more than a foot or two tall. As a native, once established it grows every easy with little care in well draining sandy soil, in full sun to part shade. It is not frost tolerant so it best suited for Zones 9-11. Blue porterweed has tiny and yummy blueish purple flowers that bloom year round. It is loved by the butterflies and pollinators, hosting the Tropical Buckeye Butterfly and provides nectar to many other Florida butterflies and skippers. Itβs just an all around wonderful native to have growing in your yard. For Planting the Cuttings:Please put the cuttings in small glass of water as soon as possible upon arrival. I recommend propagating them in water. Simply put the cuttings in a mason jar or clear glass with water until they are a quarter to halfway submerged. Keep the jar in a sunny area and change the water often. After a couple of weeks roots will begin to form. Wait until you have a decent amount of roots before transferring to soil. When transplanting them in soil, I recommend putting them in pots first, keep them in the shade, and watered until they are more established & then transfer to the ground. You can also opt to propagate the cuttings directly in the soil (instead of in water), and if you chose to do that I would suggest a natural rooting hormone to help them along. Taste and PreparationThe flowers are tiny and have a mild mushroom taste to them. You can consume them freshly picked, added to salads, or baked treats, or brewed for tea etc. Both the leaves and flowers can be used in different ways as an herbal ally. Please do your own research before using/consuming. Please Note: All of my cuttings are fresh and viable. Growing plants is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes itβs not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening. I hope you experience success with all the cuttings, however because I am not there to plant them, I cannot be responsible for rooting failure due to improper planting or climate conditions etc. I do include a detailed note with planting advice with your order to help ensure your success. Shipping of Cuttings: I ship my cuttings via the Postal Service, USPS, as a First Class package with tracking. I will freshly cut the cuttings on the same day that i ship them to you. I will package them in a moist paper towel with great care to ensure safe delivery to you. These are fresh cuttings that will need to be planted upon their arrival to you.
