Description: 1860's Bombardment of Fort Henry, Tennessee & Gunboat "Mohawk" Chasing Confederate Steamer "Spray". Reverse: Gen. Bank's Cavalry, Hyattstown, Maryland, and Prisoners at Fort LaFayette, N.Y. in 1861.120 Year Old Prints from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Famous Leaders and Battle Scenes of the Civil War. The prints, from a book form, were from artist sketches that were done at the actual time of the conflicts or events. Many prints are dated (see photo descriptions). These prints were reproduced from original cuts made by Frank Leslie's Corps of War Artists. They were used in the 1890's volume because of their assured authenticity. Original works were drawn and engraved from sketches made at the scene of the battle or location by the most famous artists of the time and all scenes and dates were checked for accuracy, according to the publisher. Image area measures approximately 9 1/2" x 14" on a 11 1/2" x 17" sheet with descriptive text and margin all around making the print suitable for matting and framing. In addition to the front print, there are other illustrations with text on the reverse side. Tear to print has been taped in the margin. (see photos).
