The International Convention at Boston drew over 50,000 delegates, and it was also notable in that it was here that the World's Christian Endeavor Union was organized under the presidency of Francis Edward Clark. In 1895, the author of the "Boston '95" hymn, Charles E. Allen, was serving as the President of the Massachusetts Christian Endeavor Union and had previously been its Secretary. Prior to that had served as the President of the Boston Christian Endeavor Union. Christian Endeavor was a nondenominational evangelical movement whose mission was "to promote an earnest Christian life among its members, to increase their mutual acquaintanceship, and to make them more useful in the service of God.
