Description: LOUIS-MAURICE BOUTET DE MONVEL (French, 1850-1913) Study of a young girl Original lithograph in two colours, published in "The Studio" Magazine in the 1890s. A fine quality and delicate lithograph, produced from the original artwork which Monvel would have submitted to the editor Charles Holme for inclusion as a Supplement. Note how even some of the very feint pencil lines are skilfully rendered. Title and authorship inscribed at bottom right corner. Good condition, with a few signs of handling over the years in the blank area. The full sheet measures 28.5 x 19.5 centimetres, so good margins should you wish to mount/frame it. Published by "The Studio" magazine 1890s. Hence "lifetime". The Studio was a lavishly-produced, prestigious quarterly festschrift of art, to which leading and promising artists offered examples of their work. Some were commissions from the editor, too. Whistler, Beardsley, Waterhouse, Vallotton are just a few of the artists whose original graphic work was featured. The publication took lithography to new heights in the 1890s, producing superb quality images. Printed on wove paper. Some biographical information about the artist in my screenshot snippet (last photo). Unframed.
