The mutant known as Psylocke was first seen not in the pages of X-Men but in December 1976 in the comic starring her brother, Captain Britain. Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock inherited paranormal abilities from her father, who hailed from another dimension. Betsy possessed a range of telepathic capabilities, including mind-reading, illusion-casting, and mental-bolt projection, and used her gifts as an agent of S.T.R.I.K.E., the British wing of the law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. While briefly succeeding her brother Brian as Captain Britain, Betsy was blinded by adversaries and received cybernetic eyes.
