Description: Britannia Mule Error w/ Lunar Horse Obverse 2014 1 oz .999 Silver Coin - NGC MS69 Proof Like with STRIKE THROUGH NGC Cert: 3863331-223Date/Info: 2014 G.BRITAIN BRITANNIA LUNAR HORSE OBVERSE-MULE Denomination: S2PNDGrade: MS 69 PLPrice Guide: N/ANGC Census: 8561NGC Coin Explorer: N/A Coin Highlights:Contains 1 oz of .999 fine Silver.NGC encapsulation protects and guarantees the MS-69 condition of the coin.Rare "Mule" error coin.Obverse: Displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the face value of 2 pounds.Reverse: The legendary figure of Britannia holding a trident with a shield and lion by her side. Her image has symbolized Britain’s strength and integrity on coinage since Roman times.Sovereign coin backed by the British government. It is now known, and has been officially verified by the Royal Mint, that this 'mule error' coin was struck in the production of a batch of Britannia's destined for the bullion market sometime between November & December 2013. It is the Obverse (Head side) that makes the coin a mule coin. A 1oz Silver Britannia Obverse design should contain a castellated pattern round the inside edge of this side of the coin, as it does on the Reverse (Tails) side. However, with the release of the new UK Lunar £2 silver coin, new dies were produced for the obverse of that coin that although very similar to the obverse of the Britannia Obverse do not have the pattern round the inside edge ie. the inside edge is plain. Somehow during the striking of the batch of Britannia coins, the dies for the Obverse of the UK Lunar coin were used on this particular batch of Britannia's, thus turning them into a mule coin. This is a 'MULE ERROR' coin that was produced by the Royal Mint. The 'MULE' coin has the original Philip Nathan Britannia Reverse design, but with the New UK Lunar Coin Obverse.Numbers of the 'mule' coin have been officially verified by the Royal Mint at 17,000 pieces ONLY. Blazing black and white 2014 Great Britain 2 pound Britannia with the sought-after Lunar Horse obverse. One of only 8 pieces graded MS69 proof like by NGC with zero graded higherStuck accidentally with the obverse die of the 2014 Year of the Horse lunar series commemorative, with the smooth edge rather than the crenelated edge. A great error coin because the mule is easy to see and identify with the naked eye--made even more interesting by a "struck through" error in the fields beneath Britannia's trident. Also easily visible with the naked eye, and clearly a legitimate struck through as NGC kept the well-deserved MS69 Proof Like grade. Likely the only MS69 PL with a strike through.
