Description: This Victoria-era, British cover looks to have been sent by a British Navy sailor serving on a warship that made a stop at San Francisco(note the two, auxiliary notations("Via San Francisco," and countersignature by the sender's superior, a Lt.(?) Rothwell) in pen(in poor handwriting(possibly due to heavy seas occurring at the same time?!), California, U.S.A., in Fall 1872! The concession-rate mail was received at the London-E.C. P.O. on November 22, 1872, and arrived at Harrogate, Yorkshire, England, the next day! To continue, as for the rust red, 1-Pence, QV GB issue, it's in very fine condition! The London-E.C. P.O., bar numeral duplex cancel, "84," is pretty fine, though light/faded and smudged a bit! The black, receiver CDS from Harrogate P.O. is superb! Lastly, as for the condition of the envelope, itself, it's good-very good. It's got some minor stains on it. There are a number of creases in it, too. The back flap is about 85% intact. There was a part of the back of the envelope removed upon the mail being opened. Noted imperfections aside, this looks to be a unique, nifty piece of British Naval postal history!
