Description: The Bookfinder General Specialists in RARE & Antiquarian books The Self-Interpreting Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments; To which are Annexed An Extensive Introduction: Marginal References and Illustrations; An Exact Summary of the Several Books; A Paraphrase On the Most Obscure or Important Parts; An Analysis of the Contents of each Chapter, Explanatory Notes, Evangelical Reflections, &c., &c. By the Late Rev. John Brown Publisher: T. Webster, Bungay, 1810, a new edition. Two quarto volumes bound in contemporary full leather. These volumes are in good condition, with wear to the leather, chipped title labels, especially on volume two, and a cracked hinge on volume two, now stabilized. Internally, volume one lacks the ffep, and has some marking to the frontispiece and beginning pages. Two plates in this volume have been detached and are now tipped in, but show wear and creasing. Occasional pages and plates have repaired closed tears. The books are, however, mainly clean and bright. On the verso of the portrait frontispiece are a few lines of family genealogy from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and the ink from these shows through on the recto. There is also an interesting inscription on the rear free endpaper ‘Mr David Allen Came to Reside In part of My House March ye 9th 1833 to pay 2s6d per Week- Wm Fowler’. Quite a high rent for the time! The books are illustrated with numerous plates, many of which are of scenes of daily life in Biblical times as well as illustrations of the stories of the Bible. Quarto sized volumes, 28cm, 11 inches, tall, 8.5cm, 3.5 inches, thick. These volumes are unpaginated with many hundreds of pages, but they appear to be complete, except for two leaves in volume two, between Acts chapter 17 and chapter 19. The books weigh a little over 7kg, and so overseas postage is high. A cheaper postage is available if the volumes are sent in separate packages for destinations outside Europe. (Unavailable for Canada as both volumes exceed the 2kg limit.) postage & packing Delivery costs for this item are: free for UK only. please email for overseas postage rates.
