Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) BUCKINGHAM PALACE. This Palace, the London residence and Court of Queen Victoria, occupies the site of Buckingham House, built by the Duke of Buckingham in 1703. It was purchased by George III. in the second year of his reign, and in 1775 legally settled upon his Queen Charlotte. The present Palace was commenced by George IV. in 1825, but left unfinished; and was only completed for Queen Victoria in 1837, giving occasion to the witticism that it was the cheapest palace in Europe, being built for on sovereign and furnished for another." Nearly all Her Majesty's children were born here. The principal front faces St. James's Park, and is 360 feet in length. The principal State Apartments are the Drawing Room, the Throne Room, the Grand Saloon, the Picture Gallery, and the State Ball Room, the latter iso feet long by 60 feet wide.
