Description: c 1850 Child Sepia Sheet Pattern Partial Dinner Set, Staffordshire Miniature Reference: 1). Lorraine Punchard, ‘ Playtime Pottery & Porcelain From the United Kingdom and the United States,’ p 128. 2) Doris Lechler, ‘English Toy China,’ Figure #219, pp 87, 198. This is a mystery pattern partial dinner set that is transfer printed in a sepia sheet pattern, c 1850. There are no marks other than an embossed triangle with a circle inside on the low tazzas. The pieces are well sculpted and interesting. It is possible that the blanks were purchased from a pottery, such as, Meigh, and finished by another smaller, unknown pottery that decorated and fired blanks. The shape of the tureen finial and the handles are reminiscent of pieces produced by Charles Meigh, Old Hall Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, 1835 – 1849. However, no verification of the pattern or maker has been found. The pattern is an attractive sepia transfer on creamy white earthenware of a vine with flowers and leaves. This Child's partial set consists of: (1) Tureen with Lid and Underplate: 3.75” W x 2.75” D x 3.75” HUnderplate: 4” W x 3.675” D(1) Round Tureen or Biscuit Jar with Lid: 3.675” x 3.25” D x 3.5” H(1) Sauce Boat: 3.675 w x 1.75” D x 2.25” H Interior hairline to the bowl.(2) Low Footed Tazzas: 4.675” W x 4.125” D x 1.5” H One with an underside .5” rim chip. Please ignore the white reflections in the photos. This child’s miniature partial mystery set is in excellent condition with the exceptions detailed above. Transfer skips or smudges, crazing and minor typical firing and stilt imperfections sporadically may appear consistent with production at the time they were produced. Presented as is and as found. A large inventory of Antique miniature and children’s porcelain and pottery dishes which includes tea, dinner, and dessert sets, and accessories exists.
