Description: c1700 ANTIQUE ITALIAN SAVONA MAJOLICA FAIENCE DELFT TWIN HANDLED JAR BOTTLE Description: An excellent example of a late 17th, early 18th Century Italian majolica pottery twin handled bottle, made in Savona and bearing Savonese shield mark to the underside, circa 1700. The earthenware tin glazed bulbous jar, painted in blue manganese Italian Baroque decoration, has a short cylindrical neck surmounted with scrolling twin handles and small sun and moon motifs to each side. The body is decorated in blue on a blueish white ground with a putti to one side, and the Priamer Fortress (Italian: Fortezza del Primar, built in 1542) to the other side, as well as scattered insects, birds, foliate designs and celestial objects. The base bears the Savonese crowned armorial shield mark within an unglazed foot rim.
