Description: Manuscript Book on Theology, c1850s (?)Hardbound notebook, bound in half leather, belonging to A. Munson, his name written on top corner of the front cover, inside front cover – and also at the back of the book with the notation Broadalbin, Fulton Co. N. Y. Contains 94 pages of neat, legible manuscript writing on the subject of theology. No date or other ownership information, but likely mid to late 1800s. Very good condition. The manuscript is entitled “Lectures on Theology by Dr. Mathews” and covers subjects including the nature of God, the attributes of God, doctrine of the Trinity, the divinity of Christ, the personality of the Holy Spirit, objections to the doctrine of election, the Fall of Man, the covenant of grace, of Christ the mediator, the atonement, free will, repentance, good works, religious worship, the Sabbath and more. One section of the manuscript is entitled “Notes from Ernesti” – likely John August Ernesti (1707-1781) a German rationalist theologian. We have identified an Alexander Munson of Broadalbin, Fulton County, NY, a farmer, born 1834. He had a son also named Alexander, born 1859. One of these is likely our A. Munson, but we have no way to verify it. We have been unable to identify Dr. Mathews.
