c1898 Antique Pair of Small Espresso Cups & Saucers by Jaeger & Co of Germany

Description: This is a lovely set of two small antique eggshell porcelain flat espresso cups and saucers, made by Jaeger & Co of Porzellanfabrik Marktredwitz in Bavaria Germany. The backstamp in green under the glaze of the J & C under crossed flowers and stems, was used starting in 1898, up till 1923, according to porcelainmarksandmore.com. The word Aida, probably refers to the pattern of the porcelain. The red decorator stamp on top of the glaze shows it was decorated by JHR&C of Munich Germany. This set is in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing. There are very few faint marks in the glaze on the saucers, looking at a angle to the light, and there is a bit of rub wear to the gold on the edges. It’s a beautiful set, and well taken care of in its 120 years! This set has a beautiful design of pink roses in green vases with handles connected by green swags on the cups, and vases with handles full of pink roses on the saucers. The cups are espresso shaped and flat on the bottom, with art deco shaped handles. This porcelain is the thinnest and finest I have seen. These are small sets, but one set of cup and saucer, is so fine and thin, it only weighs 3 ounces! The cup is 2 inches tall, 1 & 7/8 inches in diameter and holds 1/4 cup easily. The saucers are 4 & 1/4 inches in diameter. The last picture shows the cup and saucer next to a standard teacup so you can get a good idea of it’s size.
