Description: c1940s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Washington DC Vintage Linen Postcard. The recently completed tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands in front of the amphitheatre in Arlington National Cemetery. On one end of the huge die block of Colorado marble are carved three symbolic figures - Peace, Victory and Valor - commemorative of the spirit of the Allies. On the end facing the amphitheatre is an inscription reading, "Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.
