Caricature drawing by: Juan David,1962. Ignacio Villa Fernandez "Bola de Nieve".

Description: Caricature drawing by: Juan David. Ignacio Villa Fernández "Bola de Nieve".Technique: Ink on Paper.Measures: 16 x 16 Inches.Signature: david62. The work is a caricature representing Ignacio Jacinto Villa Fernández (Guanabacoa, Cuba, September 11, 1911-Mexico City, October 2, 1971), better known by his stage name Bola de Nieve, was a Cuban singer, composer and pianist. The origins of his nickname are divided into two opinions. For many, it was devised by Rita Montaner in a show night at the Havana Hotel Sevilla in 1930 or 1931, when he accompanied her at the piano in "El manisero" and "Siboney". For others, like journalist Fernando Campoamor, it was the idea of a neighborhood doctor, Carlos Guerrero. The popular stories tell that Ignacio was annoyed by the nickname, already in the time when he was not yet famous, when in his neighborhood he waited in front of the Carral Theater to replace the pianist when he was absent, or to accompany the silent films that were screened there at that time. The boys of the neighborhood, in mockery, called him by the nicknames of "Bola de Fango" and "Bola de Trapo". However, it was really Rita Montaner who made the nickname popular, which was first seen written in public in Mexico, when the singer made them put on the presentation poster: "Rita Montaner y Bola de Nieve" (Rita Montaner and Snowball). The artist is Juan David-Posada (Cienfuegos, April 25, 1911 - Havana, August 8, 1981). An important figure of the Cuban plastic arts who made personal caricature his main mode of expression. He received a careful family education from his French father (Eduardo David) and his Asturian mother (Trinidad María Posada). He acquired the habit of reading, which accompanied him throughout his life and endowed him with a broad and solid culture. His youth was spent in times when most artists were self-taught, studying where they could and how they could, rummaging through old books, leafing through magazines, looking at reproductions of works by great masters. Dibujo de caricatura de: Juan David. Ignacio Villa Fernández "Bola de Nieve".Técnica: Tinta sobre papel.Medidas: 16 x 16 Pulgadas.Firma: david62.
