Description: Cast Iron Waffle Maker, Circa 1800s, Flip Flop Style, Size 8-9, Low Base, very unique style. The irons are seven and a half inches across and the base is 9 inches in diameter at the bottom. This Waffle Iron set features a low Base with skillet style handle. Fully restored, seasoned (inside of paddles have additional layer of Pam that will dissipate on first use) and ready for use. No cracks, no chips, no repairs. Some minor pitting on outside of paddles near hinge. The irons are flip flop style which means they can be turned in either direction and rotates on the small base from either direction as well. The irons do not stay upright on their own and must use the small nub handle to hold them up. See photos to understand. Base is very light paddles are heavier and very solidly built. Interesting note: This unique waffle iron style can be found at the Smithsonian museum's waffle collection and dates to around 1890. Description says a family in Winchester, Virginia, used this style waffle iron over a wood-fired stove before donating the iron to the Smithsonian.
