Description: In Stock and Ready for Immediate Shipment! Long SOLD OUT at the Perth Mint! Celebrate the glorious natural and man-made splendor of Australia with this colorful program featuring both unique Aussie wildlife and oustanding monuments! The Perth Mint has issued this wonderful series of value priced coins meant to extol both the natural and man-made beauty of the Land Down Under. Appropriately enough, these eight colorful dollars comprise the Celebrate Australia Program. Each coin commemorates one of the eight Australian states and territories. The skillfully rendered, artistic design of each coin encompasses three distinct elements unique to each state or territory: 1) An iconic animal of that state or territory; 2) Its official floral emblem; and 3) A significant landmark or monument. The eight different states and territories represented include: Australian Capital Territory New South Wales Northern Territory Queensland South Australia Tasmania Victoria Western Australia This remarkable and reasonably priced program allows collectors of any means to taste the natural splendor and sample the remarkable diversity of the Island Continent in all its glory! Celebrate Australia! South Australia South Australia (abbreviated SA) is in the south central part of the country. It covers some of the most arid parts of the island continent and is the fourth largest of Australia's six states and two territories. SA is bordered to the west by Western Australia, to the north by the Northern Territory and Queensland, to the east by Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, and along the south by the Great Australian Bight and the Southern Ocean. With nearly 1.6 million people, the state comprises less than 10% of the Australian population and ranks fifth in population among the states and territories. The majority of its people reside in the state capital and largest city, Adelaide, with most of the remainder settled in fertile areas along the south-eastern coast and River Murray. The state's origins are unique in Australia as a freely-settled, planned British province rather than a convict settlement. Official settlement began on 28 December 1836, when the state was proclaimed at The Old Gum Tree by Governor John Hindmarsh. The coin’s obverse depicts a full color view of historic St. Peter's Cathedral in Adelaide. The design includes South Australia’s official animal, the hairy-nosed wombat, and Sturt's Desert Pea, its floral emblem. Obverse A full color view of historic St. Peter's Cathedral in Adelaide. Reverse The reverse features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in crowned profile facing right. This portrait, featuring Her Majesty wearing a tiara and pearl earrings, was executed by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH II, the date and the denomination also appear.
