Bound in contemporary 3/5 burgundy morocco and marbled boards, with marbled endpapers, gilt spine title and copartments. Generally crisp and sound, with the front inner hinge thinly cracked, but holding, one leaf of the Contents re-attached with clear tape at the gutter. Plates foxed, some quite heavily, but they are all present (albeit with a few inserted a leaf or two away from where they ought to be; common in these early Dickens editions, bound from parts). Text mostly quite clean and vibrant. Two handsome bookplates to the front endpapers, along with a small pasted-on news clipping related to the book. Altogether, a nearly very good copy. Conforms to Gimbel A40 (that copy still in its original parts, and identified in that esteemed Dickens collection as being the earliest edition of "Nicholas Nickleby"). A decent, complete, and unrestored example of this early Dickens classic.
