(ii), x, [1]-320, 4pp ads. Greyish blue cloth lettered and decorated in dark blue on upper covers, lettered in gilt on spine and blocked in blind on rear. Condition : Minor rubbing to boards. Contents very clean and tight. Very good. About : Charles Godfrey Leland was an American folklorist who travelled extensively in Europe before settling in London. Among others, he wrote several books on gypsy life and lore and developed an interest in on pagan and Aryan traditions which culmionated with the publication of ARADIA, OR THE GOSPEL OF THE WITCHES. This collection of short fantasies was published shortly before his death and details the adventures of a figure akin to the “Wandering Jew,” though unlike most collections of the memoirs of an immortal this contains one story set in the future. (The only other author who did this, that I can think of, was Karl Edward Wagner who wrote a piece about Kane that was set in the future.)
