Taylor spent 51 years in China. PROVENANCE: This book is from the library of Dr. James A. Stewart. Stewart was a prominent Scottish fundamentalist evangelist who also wrote books, started a publishing company and directed the Russian Bible Society. Stewart was the first preacher from the West to go behind the Iron Curtain after World War II. In 1970 there was a fire in his home leaving dark smoke marks on some books. There is no smoke odor. There are no markings of Dr. Stewart within this copy, other than the discoloration from the fire, mentioned below. CONDITION: Overall VG with some darkening to the cover from the fire, and crinkling of the cloth on the cover and shelf wear. Front inner hinge has cracked, yet is still well affixed. Endpapers show some discoloration. Miraculously, the textblock has remained significantly unaffected, and the text has NOT been compromised; yet there is occasional light evidence of darkening spots from the blaze, predominantly on some edges. Pagination is complete and unmarked, except for a notation on the front flyleaf which reads "In remembrance of Your Friend in Blackfriars", written in ink presumed from the period. Engravings are magnificent. A wonderfully preserved copy. Full refund if not satisfied. Please note that this item will be delivered with "adult signature required."
