Description: Chinese 18th Century Charger of the last decades of the Kangxi period 1662-1722 or early Yongzheng 1723-1735 period.Finely enamelled in an imari palette with overglaze enamels of blue and lime and emerald greens, yellow,brown, iron red and white and gold highlights. The decoration is floral with a blue baluster vase at thecentre holding chrysanthemums and other flowers and beside the vase two further large chrysanthemums. The vase depicted handles in yellow enamel and blossom is shown in the lower register. Three lucky 'cash coins' are shown below the base of the vase. Vase. The Chinese character for the vase is 瓶, often referred to as 花瓶 pronounced hua ping, meaning a vase meant for flowers. Because the word 瓶 is a homonym for 平, the vase also carries the symbolic meaning of peace or harmony.The elaborate lip/border of the plate with chrysanthemum, peony, prunus blossom, plant tendrils and stylised flower balls and curl work.The back with Lingzhi the sacred fungus a symbol of longevity only found by deer.Significant dirty/stained hairlines. The stains can be removed from the hairlines professionally. Some enamel ,gilt wear, and rim chips consistent with the age and use of this item.Sold as damaged.
