Description: I have contacted Christoffle customer service in France regarding these pieces. They said they are "gilded metal" and were in their catalogue between 1862 and 1891. Probably plated over nickle minded in French Caledonia. The service said the pattern is from the "Knot" Collection. They do not have records of customer purchases. These pieces were sourced in Sun Valley, Idaho, home of Movie Stars from the late 1930's. This is only a possibility, but they could have been purchased from pieces sold after Rudolph Valentino's death in 1926. He could have purchased a complete set while in Paris and these are part of that service. Just conjecture. Do your own due diligence if you wish to pursue these pieces. If you can get better evidence than what I have garnered, and can prove they belonged to Rudolph Valentino, they would be worth considerably more that my sales price. They are clearly engraved with the Monogram: RV. I do not have the time to research this more than I have. The pieces are stamped with the mark CHRISTOFLE as well as another Hallmark stamp. They are not gold Plate over Sterling according to Christofle Customer Service. The marks are barely visibly in the photos and need to be seen through a magnifying glass. Further research is up to the buyer. I am selling these priced as if there is no Valentino connection-just as beautiful and rare vintage Christofle flatware pieces.
