Description: This is an original oil painting of 2 beautifully rendered fish by the artist, Chuck Connelly (chuckconnelly.org). This painting is titled, as per the artist’s catalog raisonne, as: Two Dead Fish in a Bowl16”x 20”oil on canvas1997Chuck Connelly I purchased this painting in March 2019 from Jill & Jose Arellano via an eBay auction. I acquired the painting as framed from them. I have never taken the painting out of it’s frame so as not to disturb the paper backing. I am selling the painting (with frame) as is. I have no reason to believe that the frame obscures any irregularities in the canvas. The painting is signed on the back by the artist and measures 16” x 20”. The frame measures approximately 22 1/4” x 36 1/4.” Seller pays shipping. The Arellanos forwarded to me a May 2011 receipt of the framing of the work which was billed to Joe Lorello, presumably an owner prior to them, along with 2 photographs. The photo of Chuck Connelly with the painting includes the writing on the photo’s back “Visit to his Phili Studio to pu (pick up?) paintings & to see his work 5/11.” These provenance items will be forwarded to purchaser as well. You will find this painting in the artist’s catalog raisonne at chuckconnelly.org. This painting is listed among the artist’s 1997 works at https://chuckconnelly.org/project/1997/. Works of Chuck Connelly in circulation are rare so this is a great chance to acquire a Connelly. I encourage buyers with serious interest to research Chuck Connelly. Begin with a simple Google search for “Chuck Connelly” and see for yourself the talent, breadth of work, and critical accolades attributed to this great artist. Chuck’s paintings were famously featured in the 1989 anthology film, New York Stories, in Martin Scorsese’s feature, Life Lessons, within that film, starring Nick Nolte as the leonine painter, Lionel Dobie, Chuck’s paintings were also stars of the film, featured in the opening credits and throughout, with their vibrant colors and thick, impasto brushstrokes. Chuck is a world-class painter whose works are in the holdings of major museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Warhol Museum hosted his one-man museum show in 2014 as part of the Pittsburgh biennial. Chuck has been the subject of two documentaries. The first, The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not for Sale, was an HBO production which went on to win an Emmy at the 30th annual event in 2009 for the 'Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming' category. The second documentary, Chuck Connelly: Into the Light (chuckconnellyintothelight.com), premiered in film festivals in 2020.
